WASHINGTON, DC – The Lepanto Institute released a new report exposing the contraception-distributing activities of a Catholic organization in the Netherlands. The Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (CORDAID), has illustrated a number of projects on its own website, indicating the distribution of short and long-term acting contraception, as well as its own funding of affiliates of Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International.
CORDAID is a co-founder and current affiliate of Caritas Internationalis. Caritas Internationalis is the Vatican-run umbrella organization that oversees Catholic charity, aid and development organizations (like Catholic Relief Services in the USA) all over the world.
“There is nothing ‘Catholic’ about an organization that actively distributes contraception and funds enemies of Christ such as Planned Parenthood,” said Michael Hichborn, president of the Lepanto Institute. “Caritas Internationalis has an obligation to bring CORDAID’s activities and funding practices in line with Catholic teaching, or completely disaffiliate CORDAID from Caritas.”
The report issued by the Lepanto Institute provides numerous links and screen captures to CORDAID’s website where CORDAID provides the details of its provision of contraception and funding of anti-Catholic organizations. One project, where CORDAID funded Planned Parenthood, showed pictures of women wearing UNFPA shirts that said, “Let Girls be Girls not Mothers.”
“The activities of CORDAID provide a clear example of the rebellion of social justice organizations within the Catholic Church,” said Hichborn. “The bishops of the United States must take notice of what CORDAID is doing and realize that if they do not work to prevent it now, Catholic Relief Services will soon follow suit.”
Catholic Relief Services has been under heavy criticism by several Catholic organizations for implementing contraception-promoting programs and employing a vice president in a same-sex marriage.
