Inland Equity Community land Trust
Inland Equity Community Land Trust (IECLT) received its first-ever national CCHD grant in 2022. It has received a total of three grants, including its most recent grant of $25,000 for the 2024-2025 grant cycle, for a total of $75,000.
At issue is that the IECLT has itself promoted LGBT ideologies, participated in a “Pride March,” and promoted trans activists on social media. Additionally, its board president is a socialist and co-chair of the Inland Empire chapter of the Democratic-Socialists of America. Another member of the board of directors is also a socialist who promotes LGBT ideologies. Furthermore, the executive director is a socialist who promotes pro-abortion messaging and LGBT ideologies.
On 23 December 2020, IECLT posted an article celebrating two trans activists in New York.
On 2 June 2023, IECLT posted pictures of its participation in a “Pride rally,” including pro-LGBT hashtag messages, like “#TransRightsAreHumanRight, #LGBTQCivilRights, #WeAreHere, #WeAreQueer, #WeWontLiveInFear.”
That same day, IECLT posted an invitation for Democrats in the Redlands to join in a pro-LGBT demonstration.
On 2 June 2024, IECLT declared “Happy Pride Month.”
On 27 June 2024, IECLT promoted “LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Day.”
The president of IECLT is Anabel Nevarez. The profile for Nevarez on IECLT’s own website acknowledges her leadership in the Democratic Socialists of America.
According to the Inland Empire DSA’s social media, Nevarez joined the DSA on 3 May 2020. In the post – intended to recruit others – Nevarez said of her membership in the DSA:
“I joined the Democratic Socialists of America to be part of an organization that cares about improving the lives of working class people. Capitalism burdens marginalized communities the most, but the political & cultural clubs I’ve participated in fail to challenge this system to tangibly change our reality. DSA is a space where I can be in solidarity with others to uplift each other & actively engage my community.”
On 29 June 2022, Nevarez participated in a DSA rally “for Abortion Rights.” Nevarez actually spoke at the rally, blaming Democrats for the overturning of Roe.
The Secretary of the Board of Directors for IECLT is Matthew Snyder.
While not necessarily a violation of CCHD grant guidelines, the post here perfectly illustrates Snyder’s disposition, raising the question, “Is this the sort of organization the Catholic Church should be funding?”
On 31 December 2023, Snyder gave the history of the IECLT and how it was completely built upon a desire to make America a socialist nation. Tagged in the post are Anabel Nevarez (IECLT’s president) and Maribel Nunez (IECLT’s executive director).
Like Nevarez, Snyder is also a Socialist. On June 25, 2018, Snyder wrote the following review for the Inland Empire DSA.
On 8 August 2023, Snyder posted a call for followers to join the DSA, laying out his reasons for joining. The outline he established indicated a firm desire to overrun the Democrat party with Socialists.
On 28 January 2021, Snyder wrote about running a DSA nigh school session on Housing for All.
On 19 June 2021, Snyder posted about his latest podcast celebrating the 1936 Marxist Revolutionists in Spain.
On 25 June 2022, Snyder posted about the DSA rally for a Right to Abortion at which Nevarez spoke, declaring “abortion is healthcare” and “abortions without shame & without apology.”
On 27 January 2020, Snyder styled himself a defender of LGBT individuals while encouraging people to join the IECLT because “this is how we will build eco-socialism.”
On 10 September of 2025, Snyder openly cited Karl Marx.
The executive director for IECLT is Maribel Nunez. This is both identified in IECLT’s latest tax form 990, and on Maribel’s current facebook page.
As with both Nevarez and Snyder, Nunez is also a self-proclaimed Socialist. On 3 June 2022, she publicly posted on facebook, “Im a Mexican, Woman, Democratic Socialist.”
On 10 March 2024, Nunez thanked “Matt” for a “Coffee and Reading post election” selection on the fight for “municipal socialism.”
On 23 March 2019, Nunez advertised a recruiting tool for the DSA – a “break light clinic.”
On 15 January 2020, Snyder tagged Nunez in a post declaring that they had just passed their bylaws. He called for the building of “socialism from above with Bernie” and “socialism from below by creating … a community land trust or two.”
On 22 February 2024, Nunez called for volunteers to assist in canvassing for someone running for public office “with Reproductive Freedom for all.”
On 14 May 2019, Nunez expressed her displeasure that Alabama passed a near total abortion ban.
On 23 March 2025, Nunez advertised for the Trans Day of Visibility March.
On 13 June 2015, Nunez celebrated the defeat of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Conclusion
IECLT is an organization that was built by Marxists for the spread of Marxist ideologies. The organization itself has ties promoted LGBT ideologies and participated in LGBT activities. Its leadership from the president, to the secretary, to the executive director, are all Marxists, they are all pro-abortion advocates, and they are all advocates for LGBT ideologies and activism. There is nothing about this organization that is worthy of Catholic funding, and had the CCHD conducted a very simple review of it, it would have been clear that it was not in line with either Catholic teaching nor with CCHD grant guidelines.
