La Via Campesina

La Via Campesina is identified in conjunction with MST as one of the members of the Organizing Committee for the WMPM in 2025.  La Via Campesina bills itself as the world’s largest international peasant movement.  It describes itself as an autonomous, independent, and pluralist international movement that coordinates peasant organizations of small and middle-scale producers, and MST helped establish it in 1993.  Today, MST – while a distinct and separate organization – is a founding member of La Via Campesina and one of the largest and most visible member organizations helping to shape LVC’s overall direction, strategy, and visibility.  Ayala L. Dias, a senior national coordinator and leader of MST, is also representing La Via Campesina at the WMPM.

In this video of various aspects of the 5th Meeting, a flag belonging to La Via Campesina is seen hanging inside Spin Time Labs where the meeting was held, at 5:11.

La Via Campesina has been involved with the WMPM since the first one in 2014.  It provided video of its participation in 2015.  It took photos and was represented by someone from MST at the third meeting in 2016, while one of its members, Paul Nicholson, attended.  And it was listed as part of the Organizing Committee in 2021 for the fourth WMPM.

And as with MST and the rest of the organizations profile here, La Via Campesina is thoroughly Marxist and is also stridently pro-abortion and pro-LGBT.

On 28 April 2018, LVC held a “Brazil Women’s Seminar.”  It spoke of unity in its “anti-patriarchal fight, anti-imperialist, anti-neoliberal and anti-capitalist” fight.  It spoke of “our revolutionary struggle” and declared, “our feminist fight is our political strategy to achieve the socialist society that we carry in our fists and in our hearts” before exclaiming, “Without Feminism There Is No Socialism!!!”

A few months later, with revolutionary imagery, LVC repeated its cry on 21 November 2018 that “Without feminism, there is no socialism!” as it called for resistance against patriarchy and capitalism.

On 6 February 2020, LVC wrote glowingly of organizations “driving and upholding the process of the Bolivarian Revolution.”

On 18 April 2022, LVC celebrated its key member, All Nepal Peasants Federation for organizing a program on “socialist transformation of agriculture.”

In addition to this, LVC openly promotes abortion as a “right.”

On 28 November 2018, LVC called the banning of emergency contraception and the criminalization of abortion “an open denial of the rights of Honduran women.”

On 26 November 2019, LVC marched with feminist organizations, denouncing “unsafe abortion,” meaning there should be legal abortion facilities where they can be performed “safely.”

Making this perfectly clear on their own website, LVC made the following demand:

Congress should approve the Penal Code decriminalizing abortion in three specific cases: when the mother’s life is in danger, in cases of rape and incest, and when the fetus has a malformation incompatible with life. A total ban on abortion results in higher maternal mortality.

We demand the grounds for removal now: it is a just right that the majority of citizens support!

On 28 September 2020, LVC openly called for the legalization of abortion.

On 21 July 2021, LVC platformed women struggling for “the right to abortion.”

And to round it all out, LVC is openly promoting grave sexual immorality. On 29 June 2021, LVC expressed full support and solidarity with the LGBTQI+ movement.

On 28 June 2020, LVC expressed its desire “to build a world and a sexuality without ties!”

In celebration of “pride month” and while declaring that “Love Makes Revolution,” on 19 June 2020, LVC expressed its desire “to build territories free of prejudice and discrimination, by race, ethnicity, sexual diversity and/or gender identity.”

On 11 July 2024, LVC promoted the LGBT “struggle” in South Africa.

On 14 December 2021, LVC “held the International Training Seminar on Sexual and Gender Diversity” which had the stated goal of “broadening the debates [and] learning and exchanging of experiences on the rights of LGBTI+ people and sexual diversity.”

There are far more examples of La Via Campesina’s campaigns for immorality and its attachment to socialist ideologies – not the least of which is its intimate relationship with MST.  But this bit of information perfectly illustrates the point: There is no common ground between La Via Campesina and the Catholic Church and the introduction of vulnerable Catholics to this organization will only lead to the ruin of souls.
