Prospera Community Development

Prospera Community Development

Prospera Community Development has received two consecutive grants from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) totaling $135,000, including the current grant of $75,000 for FY 2020-2021.

The problem with Prospera has everything to do with its leadership.  As has been shown in so many other CCHD grant reports in our other reports on CCHD grantees for 2020-2021, personnel is policy.  We’ve pointed out case after case that where the leadership is involved in Marxism, the organization is involved; where the leadership is involved in the promotion of abortion, the organization follows suit; and where the leadership is promoting homosexual and transgender ideologies, the organization does the same.

It may not happen all at once, but time and time again, we have witnessed organizations we warned about over a decade ago falling into the promotion of those issues closest to the hearts of their leaders.  Even Bishop Bishop Jamie Soto, former chairman of the CCHD, recognized this as a serious issue.  In January of 2012, Bp. Soto removed funding from an organization called Francis House as a direct result of its executive director’s support for abortion and same-sex “marriage.” Even though the executive director claimed that she never gave support for these things in her capacity as the leader of Francis House, Bishop Soto saw fit to defund the organization anyway.

Given this, Prospera should likewise not be receiving CCHD funding, especially since the leadership of the organization has indicated on the Prospera website that they are involved in LGBTQ activism.

The Executive Director of Prospera is Claudia Arroyo, and her bio on the Prospera website says, “she has been an active leader in immigrant rights, gender and violence prevention, gay and queer rights, and health promotion for underserved communities for more than 15 years.”

Prospera’s Program Director, Elisa Santillan, says on her bio that she is same-sex “married,” and that she was very active in the “San Francisco LGBTQ+ community.”

In addition to this, two of Prospera’s board members (Ana Castano, board chair and Ximena Orozco, treasurer) are LGBTQ activists.

Conclusion

There is no denying that the leadership at Prospera has a decidedly pro-LGBTQ air to it, from the Chair of the Board to the Treasurer to the Executive Director to the Program Assistant.  As the former chairman of the board of CCHD, Bp. Jaimie Soto saw fit to deny funding to an organization because of the pro-LGBTQ activism of its leader, this organization is no different.
