South Bay Community Land Trust

South Bay Community Land Trust

South Bay Community Land Trust (SBCLT) received its first-ever national CCHD grant in 2021.  It has received a total of three grants, including its most recent grant of $75,000 for the 2023-2024 grant cycle, for a total of $150,000.

At issue is that the SBCLT has itself openly promoted a voter guide that called for the protection of same-sex “marriage,” is heavily involved in the promotion of LGBT ideologies, and is led by pro-abortion, pro-LGBT leadership.

On 3 November 2024, SBCLT posted a vote guide for California urging people to vote “Yes” on Proposition 3.

California’s 2024 Proposition 3, titled, “Constitutional Right to Marriage” – also called the Freedom to Marry initiative:

“would update our state constitution to align with existing law that allows marriage for same-sex couples, reflecting current court decisions and our values as Californians.”

On 24 August 2024, SBCLT promoted a “Queer Housing Summit” on its Instagram page.

In its newsletter, published 13 November 2020, SBCLT invited readers to participate in a workshop geared for BIQTPOC, or – as SBCLT indicated – “Black, Indigenous, Queer, Trans & People of Color.”

On 27 September 2021, SBCLT asks if “the inherent burdening of shame, blame, and violence onto queer, trans, Two Spirit, and Black relatives” is “blocking us from interdependence.”

On 16 March 2022, SBCLT honored “queer and transgender activists Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson.”  Among the images posted by SBCLT are accolades for these individuals, such as claiming that “Marsha P. Johnson” (a biological male) was a “self-proclaimed drag queen and sex worker, identifying him as a “pillar in the queer community.”

On 16 November 2021, Board Member Emerald – identified by the pronouns “ze and zir,” spoke in a 1-minute video about how at SBCLT, she works specifically with a “queer-specific lens.”

On 27 April 2022, SBCLT identified itself as “a Latinx and LGBT-led group.”

On 15 February 2022, SBCLT called for “input from the LGBTQ+ community about barriers to finding and keeping affordable housing,” marking the statement with rainbow and trans colored flags.

On 19 January 2021, SBCLT asked if “housing [is] truly inclusive” to “gender non-conforming individuals and LGBTQ persons.”

On 24 April 2021, SBCLT celebrated HUD’s decision to provide access to “trans and gender non-conforming” individuals to shelters.

SBCLT’s active promotion of LGBT ideologies – including its legislative support for same-sex “marriage” – is shocking, but unsurprising when viewed in light of what we know about the leadership.  Both the president and vice president of SBCLT are intimately involved with an openly-professed Communist organization called The League of Revolutionaries for a New America.  The president for SBCLT is Elizabeth (Liz) Gonzalez and the vice-president for SBCLT is Sandy Perry.

On 7 November 2024, Perry called upon his followers to join in on a “national dialogue for revolutionaries,” put on by “The League of Revolutionaries for a New America,” on “Nov 16 to plan next steps to resist dictatorship & build a better world!”  In the post from the League of Revolutionaries, which he included in his own post, the purpose of the meeting was explicitly stated to include “reproductive rights.”

Speaking in the nearly 2-hour dialogue was SCBLT president, Liz Gonzalez.

On 14 July 2021, both Perry and Gonzalez participated in the League’s “Demanding a Government that Meets Human Needs!”  Perry acted as a co-moderator for the event, and in his introduction he publicly stated that he is “on the Basic Needs Electoral Task Force of the League of Revolutionaries for New America.” (see 2:25 in the video)  He also identified himself as a board member of SBCLT, and later in the video would introduce Gonzalez as the president of SBCLT.

On 18 November 2023, Gonzalez and Perry co-hosted a League event titled, “Take Back Our Cities.” It is important to note that Perry says, while Gonzalez is on screen:

“we encourage you to put your pronouns into your profile as a participant.  The league believes that gender and sexual liberation is part of our work to free Society of CIS-heteropatriarchy, which is deeply intertwined with white supremacy and other forms of oppression.”

Clearly, there is an institutional and collaborative effort taking place between SBCLT and the League of Revolutionaries.  Perry is the video president on the board of SBCLT and he is on one of the League’s committees.  Gonzalez has acted as both a speaker and moderator for League events.

The grave problem is that The League of Revolutionaries for a New America is a communist organization which openly declares that a “communist society” is its true goal, as stated in its organizational resolution:

“Times like these call for an organization of revolutionaries inseparably connected to the social movement. The League’s mission is to unite with other revolutionaries around the demands of the working class, especially the class of displaced workers, and show how the solution is a cooperative, communist society, where social wealth is owned in common and distributed according to need. The League strives to make an essential contribution to politicizing the growing movement by introducing the concepts of private property and political power as appropriate to the situation.”

It’s political resolution of 2022 is even more explicit.  In part 1, the Introduction, the Political Resolution claims that Communism is a “practical solution” and that “only a society based on a communist economy” can renew abundance for humanity and life on earth:

“Distribution of goods and services based on need, and the contribution of each person to society according to their ability is the definition of communism. This is a practical solution to the problems facing the new displaced class and society today. Only a cooperative, society based on a communist economy can make the rational decisions that will unleash a future of regenerative abundance for humanity and life on earth.”

Under part 7, “Tasks of the League,” the Resolution claims that Communism “is a practical and necessary transformation that can and must be achieved if humanity and the planet are going to survive.”

“The solution, the actual program of the new displaced class is the abolition of private property relations — economic and social relationships based on private profit instead of human need. This abolition of private property is frequently referred to as communism. This communism is neither an ideal to which reality will have to adjust itself nor an idea to which people are to be won. It is neither an ideology nor a specific political form of the last century. It is a practical and necessary transformation that can and must be achieved if humanity and the planet are going to survive.“

Given this, it is no surprise that Perry would promote League events, including those which call for the defense of decriminalized abortion.

On 13 June 2024, Perry again called for his followers to join in on a League event “fighting for women’s lives.”

Of course, this event was all about fighting to protect a “right” to an abortion.

Perry posted something similar on 7 September 2022, again dealing with women’s “reproductive rights.”

And the promotion of abortion by the leadership of SBCLT isn’t limited to only the vice president.  This extends also to Laura Diaz Tovar, SBCLT’s Operational Co-Director and a founding member.

The very logo for SBCLT (posted at the very top of this article), which presents a rainbow halo surrounded by words like, “Love,” Racial and Gender Equity,” was designed by Laura Diaz Tovar.  Given the pro-LGBT activity of the organization, the inclusion of the rainbow was not incidental.

On 24 June 2022, just five months after designing SBCLT’s logo and on the very day Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court, Diaz posted a picture of what appears to be stylized women’s reproductive organs with the words, “Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights.”

Conclusion

The South Bay Community Land Trust is operated by Marxists who have very closely allied SBCLT with an openly-communist organization.  The leadership is clearly pro-abortion and pro-LGBT, and SBCLT itself is heavily committed to promoting LGBT ideologies and agendas – even to the point of publishing a vote guide which called for the protection of same-sex “marriage.”

There was clearly never any investigation into the leadership of SBCLT or its public activities, or if there was, the CCHD didn’t view any of this information as problematic.

This stands yet again as a clear example as to why the CCHD must be shut down, permanently.
