Thurston Housing Land Trust
Thurston Housing Land Trust (THLT) received its first-ever national CCHD grant in 2022. It has received a total of three grants, including its most recent grant of $25,000 for the 2024-2025 grant cycle, for a total of $80,000.
At issue is that the leadership of THLT is stridently pro-abortion and pro-LGBT.
Thea LaCross is the Executive Director for THLT.

On 26 September 2015, LaCross made sure to tell the world that she stands with Planned Parenthood:

On 28 June 2015, just days after the Supreme Court decriminalized same-sex “marriage,” LaCross celebrated with this rainbow overlay:

On 21 May 2019, LaCross attended a “Stop the Bans” event, which was directed toward the pro-life laws going into effect which enacted restrictions on abortion.

She happily advertised the “Stop the Bans” event the day before.

On 22 May 2019, LaCross posted a message calling upon women to stand against the “Republican War on Women,” a reference to the pro-life work of banning abortion.

On 18 July 2018, LaCross posted a petition calling for the defense of Roe, as in protecting the SCOTUS decision Roe V. Wade, which decriminalized abortion. In the comments under her own post, LaCross said:
“Just signing petitions seems so absolutely minor at this moment. I want to rise up in a massive crowd of sister Valkyries (queue the Wagner) and storm the citadel to keep from losing so much that we’ve worked for. My life would have taken a completely different course had this decision not happened when it did. I feel I owe it to the next generation of women, and men and children, to prevent this backsliding on this and any other issues related to women’s autonomy.”

On 18 January 2019, LaCross posted about her misgivings about attending the Women’s March, ultimately concluding that she must attend because, “The looming and increasing possibility of loosing Roe v Wade, alone, is enough to make me put my street shoes on again.”

On 1 July 2018, LaCross posted an article from VOX about Sen. Susan Collins’ declaration that she would not support a SCOTUS nominee that was hostile to Roe v. Wade.

On 4 May 2018, LaCross called for the use of hangers to perform “back-alley abortions” because Iowa passed the Fetal Heartbeat bill.

Conclusion
Had the CCHD performed even a basic background check on the leadership of THLT, it would have been immediately obvious that the organization was being run by someone completely opposed to Catholic moral teaching. As it stands, $80,000 has gone from the Church to an organization led by someone who cruelly stands in direct opposition to the defense of the most defenseless people in the world. With a disposition like that, there can be no confidence this organization won’t follow the ideologies of its leadership.
