Program Pushes Masturbation, Contraception and Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON, DC –The Lepanto Institute reveals in a new report that the Institute for Reproductive Health (IRH) paid Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Caritas Rwanda to implement a graphic sexuality education program in 2009 and 2010. My Changing Body, a sex ed. program aimed at children as young as 10, encourages condom use, promotes abortifacient contraception, normalizes homosexuality and masturbation and lists Planned Parenthood as a resource.
“The objective of this vile program is the complete destruction of innocence in children,” said Michael Hichborn, president of the Lepanto Institute. “That two Catholic institutions were involved in its development and introduction to impressionable young Rwandans is absolutely diabolical.”
In the face of heavy criticism over the past three years, CRS maintains that “CRS neither facilitates, endorses nor enables any violation of [Catholic] teachings.” The Lepanto Institute’s report, “Catholic Relief Services and Planned Parenthood Style Sex Education,” cites several independent sources including USAID, IRH, and the My Changing Body facilitator’s manual that divulge CRS’ involvement in My Changing Body.
“USAID made it abundantly clear that the program CRS introduced in Rwanda promoted the ‘acceptance of masturbation as a healthy sexual expression during adolescence,’” said Hichborn. “In this case, CRS undeniably facilitated, endorsed and enabled a program designed to attack chastity and modesty in children, which is definitely a violation of Catholic teaching.”
